And the winners are….. by Cathy de Lara

Every year at the club AGM we hold a photography competition it’s a bit of fun and designed to showcase the amazing things we have seen and done during the year.

So here are the results from this year’s efforts (2025).

Underwater UK: Unfortunately, despite the underwater photography course we didn’t have many entries, so come on you lot, you can do better next year! So, in 3rd place was Ben Mitchell with his photo of a diver, in 2nd place was Alan Mcelroy and an octopus seen on the Plymouth trip, and in 1st place was also Alan, with another, better picture of the same octopus!

Underwater Abroad: This was the most hotly contested category. In joint 2nd was Ben Mitchell’s Diver with a gun in Malta and Hilda Crockett’s turtle. In 1st place was Richard Blake’s porcupine fish in the Red Sea.

Surface: This category is also for those who don’t take photos underwater. In joint 3rd was Ben Mitchell’s divers on the club rhib and Simon Plank’s sunset over a liveaboard. 2nd place was Daniel Lindenbaum’s black and white photo of dive kit at the bottom of a ladder. In 1st place was Ben Mitchell’s rainbow over a beach.

Video:  There were some great videos submitted, and in joint 3rd was Ben Mitchell’s flying Gurnard in Malta, and his diver swimming along a wreck (also in Malta) also in joint 3rd was Richard Blake’s free swimming moray. In 2nd was Richard Blake (again) with his whaleshark close encounter. Finally in 1st place, and with the most votes of any entry in any category was Hilda Crockett’s montage from Truk and Pilau, this also won her the overall prize, a copy of “Shipwrecks of the P&O line”

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos and videos, and I am looking forward to seeing where you have all been diving at the AGM next January. You have nearly a whole year to take those photos!
