Annual photo competition 2024 by Cathy de Lara

At the 2024 AGM the hotly contested annual photo competition saw 9 photographers battle it out over 4 different categories for some “amazing” prizes.

It was great to see so many fabulous photos and videos, especially from those who joined us on the BSAC underwater photography skill development course.

The photos were shown on the screen at the AGM, and everyone present got to vote for their favourite, so after a lot of counting (and deciphering some of the numbers) the results are….

Any photo taken in the last year underwater in the UK: Joint second was Ben M, Alan, Matt and Cameron. And the winner was Alan with his picture below of a cheeky seal taken on the club trip to the Farne islands.

Any photo taken in the last year underwater abroad: Joint second was Alan and Kevin. And the winner was Simon with his photo of a turtle.

Any surface photo taken of something to do with water, diving, or club activities: Joint second was Matt, Ben W, and Simon. And the winner (by a long way!) was Simon with his photo of a dolphin 

Finally, a short video: Third was Kevin, second was also Kevin but the winner was (drumroll please!) Hilda with her compilation of fishy stuff.

Well done, to everyone who took part, it was great to see images of where people had been diving this year (really jealous of some of the locations), I especially loved the shots of club members having fun on club trips as it’s what we are all about.

Really looking forward to seeing next year’s entries, and if you have never entered this competition before, what are you waiting for? You have a whole year to take some fun and interesting photos.
