Background info/history/introduction | In 1955 the British S Class submarine the Sidon was critically damaged when one of her test peroxide-powered torpedoes exploded rupturing two bulkheads and killing 12 crew members. At the time of the explosion the Sidon was moored in Portland Harbour and she soon sank to the seabed. She was raised a week later and was later patched up so that she could be towed out for use as an ASDIC target. |
